If you were Tally, would you ask the warden to make you pretty?
If I were Tally I would ask The warden to make me pretty. Why would she just go into the city after telling Maddy and David she would turn pretty and not.
This is my last blog post so I thought I would give a final rating for the Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. On a scale of one to ten I give the Uglies a four. But on my judging scale that's pretty good. I give Twilight a fifty-five (way of the charts) because it's that good. But I have to admit the Uglies was a lot better than I gave it credit for, but as always Twilight is better.

Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she will regret it? Do you think David will ever change his mind about her?
I don't think Tally will regret coming clean. She has to feel ten times better knowing she doesn't have to life a lie any more. However, I think David will all ways find Tally "amazing" regardless of what she does. But David is stupid for liking her in the first place in my opinion.

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the cure? Why or why not?
I agree with Maddy's point entirely. Why would she make Shay take a cure she hasn't tested. Especially if it makes her look bad by doing the same thing that killed Az. Even though Dr.Cable killed Az not Maddy.

If I were Shay I would not get the surgery. Pretty or not why in the world would I take some "cure" from someone who made it in old ruins with dirty materials and has never been tested.

Respond to the following quote.
"Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
This quote means a lot to me and the book. It finally shows how Tally really feels about becoming pretty and that she really doesn't want to. She finally made a decision. However, I don't think that's how it's going to work out.

Give the list of events in this chapter in chronological order.
everyone talked about what was going on and the escape plan they got Croy and other people out of their rooms and left.
They used Dr.cable to get in the elevator and went down.
They got out and went outside
They got on hover boards and left S.C
The kicker at the end of the story is that David asked Maddy his mom where his dad was and she told him his Father had died.

Is this quote a play on words or does it have a deeper meaning to the story?
"Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic imaging. she read softly. Operating room two."
I think this has a deeper meaning to the story. It shows all of the different steps and process they don't tell you about to make you pretty. Especially "operating theatre two." it builds up suspense that every one had the operation already.
What labels do Tally and David find in the Special circumstance building. Give a brief definition of each.
Radiology- The room where they store radio waves used in the operation
neurology-room where they decide what distortions to fix in the face
Magnetic imaging-room where they take a picture of the face and add the changes to see the outcome
Operating theatre two- Where they have the surgery
describe Shay's appearance at the end of the book.
Shay was tall and elegant. Her eyes were copper, gold, deep, and soulful. And had every feature perfect. Shay was pretty.

If you had one chance to post a message important to you what would it be and why?
If I had a chance to post a message important to me it would be "Fantasy Forever". Why? because so many kids today get overwhelmed by the real world. It can be scary and stressful. Dreaming and reading fantasy can help calm you down and show them happy times will come. I believe fantasy is always closer than you think. In the 1800's a cell phone wasn't even thought of it probably would of seemed like a fantasy but know they exist which proves my point fantasy is closer than it appears.

The uglies we met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?
I think Tally has changed a lot. For example, she has lost her truthfulness. and gained the confidence as far as not being scared of adventures and new things. But I rather be honest then be a good adventurer. But as I like to say every thing good comes with bad.

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents what do you think is driving tally? Do you think Tally is crazy or are her feeling valid?
I think Tally's plan will work. For some reason they always do no matter how unrealistic. I think what's driving Tally is her guilt. She wants to undo everything she has caused. And personally I don't blame her.I think her feeling are valid she likes David and wants to live in the smoke. But I think a part of her wants to be with Peris.

How do David and Tally describe the Rustie's? Is it accurate?
David and Tally describe the Rustie's as crazy and stupid as far as our way of life, and that we are not advanced in technology. These accusations are not at all correct. We have brilliant technology and we (for the most part) are not crazy or stupid.
What are the weaknesses of our society?
some of the weaknesses in our society are that we have a lot of freedom. I am not at all saying i would want to live in a dictatorship or change our laws. Just add some. For instance just like school, College should be required and free. So many people end up homeless or barely making it because they have no college degree.
What are weaknesses in their society?
The weaknesses in their society are opposite of ours they don't have enough freedom. They should be able to choose if they get the operation. They should also get the right to know what the operation causes. And should be able to go to the pretty towns.

Describe the irony in Tally's "victory" over Dr.Cable. What was lost in the process?
What I find ironic about Tally's victory is that she was working with Dr.Cable and caused the whole massacre. She should not be worrying about a victory that could easily change to a loss. I find quite selfish for her to rejoice in a victory when she has lost all her friends and actually made someone lose their life.

I don't think Tally is amazing. Not with every thing she has caused. I think she is different from everyone else. She should definitely be feeling guilty. She has hurt every one in one way or another. I wouldn't be surprised if she ended up with no one not even her mom and dad.

Tally had changed her mind about the smoke and the operation. But what will she do about all that know? Whose side is she on?
I think Tally only changed her mind about becoming pretty because she found out about the lesions and because she felt guilty. I think she still would enjoy life as a pretty much better. I think she is sort of neutral because she doesn't want to hurt the smokies but wants to be with her old friends who are already pretties.

Read the following quote David said to Tally. "What you do, the way you think makes you beautiful." Name one person in your personal and academic life. What makes them beautiful?
One person in my home life I think is beautiful in a nice and giving kind of way is my mom. a lot of kids at her school are underprivileged and she buys them new clothes and shoes to give them. One person in my academic life I think is beautiful is a person who is really nice and forgiving and is one of my best friends and would help me with any and every problem I have.

Respond to the following quote. What does it mean to you/to the story?
"Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look... it changes the way you think."
To me this is the quote that made the whole book. It is definitely the turning point in the story. I was on the right track the whole time. To the story it also means a lot It is what changed Tally's whole decision to stay in Smoke.
If i had the decision to turn pretty and took it i would want to change me mentally by making me process faster And taking away my stress factor. Physically i would make my hair less volumes.

The quote "But you know about genetics don't you? Sure i know all all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies who looked the same. But parents and children? That's just weird." Tells me that Twins aren't common. and that every thing now a days is completely different form their time. Typically parents and children look a lot or at least a little bit alike. And I got the sense that parents and children have a terrible relationship with each other until they are pretty.
Predict what you think being "pretty" means.
From previous chapters i got the idea that the surgery changes your outside and inside. Especially from how Peris was described by Tally and then how he seemed when he saw her.

Find an example of imagery, personification, and a simile. Quote directly from the book and add page numbers.
Simile- "Like walking poison she killed everything in sight." pg.244
personification-"Tally looked away, trying to drown her in uncanny pretty feelings in the sea of white weeds."pg.245
imagery-"They walked through the smoke, past cook fires being extinguished with shovelfuls of dirt.Windows coming alight with candles and electric bulbs. And a handful of young uglies pursuing an escaped chicken."
Does it require bravery to meet David's parents? Why or why not?
Yes it does especially if your Tally with her weird fear of old uglies. To me it's kind of scary to meet anyone new. And it definitely is if their the parents of a guy your best friend likes.

Yes. Shay was "with" David first why would Shay not be jealous or mad at Tally for getting a gift that he could of gave Shay.

Yes on my twelfth birthday i got a necklace. It was a butterfly because Butterflies symbolize Christianity. My best Friend got really jealous that she didn't get one and bugged me for 2 weeks to give her mine.

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendent before she got to the smoke?
I think it would have been easier because she wouldn't of had the time to develop the relationships she has and wouldn't feel so guilty. And she wouldn't be so reluctant and second guessing her self.

I think along with every other thing Shay says about the "Rustie's" she is wrong. Not all models are so skinny their sick.
Shay and Tally have a skewed view of our time, but what have they got right?
Every thing started when Shay and Tally went to the Rusty Ruins. A guy picked Tally out of the water and put her on the Flying machine.
He gave her oxygen and she started breathing better. She went in the machine they started talking and his name was Tonk and he was a pretty and a Ranger from a nearby town.
He explained why he set everything on fire. Because the flowers Tally likes had a weird characteristic that destroyed all other life the only way to keep them away is to set them on fire.
He gave her new shoes and more water in her purifier. He found out she was going to smoke and dropped her off near shays last clue. She hiked up to the hill or bald head and waited.
Respond to the following quote-"Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever Ugly for life. Her only way home was to betray her friend."
If tally were stuck out in the wild for life i think she would eventually get to smoke and start a life there. However, this comment makes me believe even more she just wants to be pretty with Peris.

Yes. Once when I was walking my dog she jumped into the lake after these people across it. I panicked and even though I didn't want to I jumped into the lake after her. When I got home i had to give my dog a bath and dry her off.

The whole time every one is not looking at Tally on purpose but to me that shows they no she's here.

Tally Arrived at special circumstances and Dr.cable talked about shay and how they need to find her and her friends because they may have been tricked into going. Tally refused to tell on Shay. So doctor cable said until she does she wont turn pretty. Tally goes home to her dorm.
characterization of Dr.cable

Summarize the chapter titled "Operation"
Tally was waiting to go to her operation outside the dorm. Finally the car came to pick her up, She got in and they left. She waited for an hour at the hospital when the Doctor finally came in and told her there were problems with her operation. So she left with the Doctor to see what he was talking about.

Respond to the following quote from the chapter titled "Last Trick". what does it mean to you?
"We don't have to look like every one else, tally, and at like every one else. We've got a choice. We can grow up any way we want to."
To me this quote means that shay believes that the operation changes every to be the same but it doesn't. There are differences according to tally. However to me personally i can see shay's point she doesn't want to take the road so many have followed. She wants to be normal or in this case different.

The 2 fights that broke out were a lot different the 1st Tally and Shay did as a prank was fake, acted out, and was in front of an audience. The second one was between Tally and Shay again and was real. They were fighting about the operation tally wants to get it but shay doesn't. Shay believes every one is equal, Tally doesn't. The outcome of the fake fight was good and pretty funny they didn't get caught. However the real fight they had was not so good. They both seemed really mad at each other.

What does the following quote from the chapter titled "Waiting For David" tell you about the city?
"That was one thing about being outside the city. It made all that nature stuff they taught us in school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how rain water fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground."
It helps me put more of a mental picture in my head. How the land is in ruins and beat down not at all like it is know. Tally and shay probably think that these times were lacking technology and compared to their world know we are lacking technology, but what we've built up from is amazing. It also like their comparing the rusty ruins to dark unknown forest. With the same expression we would have from finding something in the forest from a long time ago.

Tally and Shay arrive at the rusty ruins. Shay and Tally explore and shay tells tally more. Then they go to the roller coaster and start to ride, and Tally actually enjoys it. Then Tally falls of but gets caught by the hover board. Tally gets mad at Shay for not telling her about the gap in the track that made Tally fall. Tally forgives shay and ask how she knows that it is called a roller coaster. Shay said a Friend told her. Tally ask if her friend is a pretty now Shay says no. Tally is surprised, and shay makes her promise that she wont tell her Friend never got the surgery, And they go to find Shays friend hiding in the Rusty Ruins.

I agree with the statement tally made. If you know when every thing is gonna happen and how it will happen and the outcome of it all. You don't have the pleasure of finding out.I love surprises and unexpected events but only to some extent. I don't want such a big surprise i get a heart attack.
The History of Whitewater Rafting: "Back in 1958 when Jack Currey used to build rafts made from balsa wood to float Southern Utah's San Juan River, class IV and V whitewater was considered too risky to run recreationally. He decided that rubber army surplus rafts would much better handle the trials of whitewater as they did not get water-logged over time. However, after only a few trips it was readily apparent that the rubber rafts had their flaws as well. Because the rafts would fill with water in the bigger rapids, a continuous bailing effort was required, and on occasion the floor would tear on the jagged rocks.
One such occasion on a challenging section of the San Juan, a Currey guide accidentally tore the entire rubber floor out of his raft, leaving a suspended wooden floor hanging from the boat frame. The accident enabled the raft to self-bail itself through the entire whitewater expedition, giving the passengers a dry, safe, and comfortable ride.
Thus, river rafting history was made with the introduction of the first self-bailing rowing raft that has since revolutionized the river rafting industry.
From the experience on the San Juan River with balsa wood rafts, the Currey's have built the largest and the safest river running company in the world. Over the past 30 years, Steve Currey and his expedition team have taken over 1/4 million satisfied guests on their national and international river expeditions.
Tragically, Steve Currey passed away during the summer of 2006 due to brain cancer. His son Neal, following three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, has taken the reigns and will continue the family adventure travel legacy beginning with trips in Chilean Patagonia on the Futaleufu and Figueroa Rivers starting December 15th of 2008."

I think the Rusty Ruins is an old town from the past that went on like how things are today. Before they had the idea and technology to come up with the whole pretty ugly idea.
My definition of peer pressure is when some one tries to convince you to do something you don't want to do or know is wrong.
One time when i was in a situation invloving peer pressure was in 4th grade. We had a new kid in our class and every one was calling him a certain name. My freinds joined in and told me to. I denied because i could tell by the look in his eyes that it really hurt his feelings. About a week later all my freinds ended up in the principals office and got in alot of trouble.

Reflect on the following quotes from the chapter, what does each mean to you?
Q-"Making ourselves feel ugly is not fun."... "This whole game is just designed to make us hate ourselves."
A- I agree with shay to me the whole point of the program is to make it seem like pretties are better , but their really not every one in the world is equal no matter what their physical properties.
Q-"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearance. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having different skin colors."
A- I think that judging people by skin color, where they come from, and way of life is wrong, and people who judge using these ways are wrong. What people fail to realize is that racial discriminating hurts the person your discriminating. I know from personal experience.
Q-"It's the only way to make people equal."
A-people are already equal no one is better than the other so by making every one pretty you are not making a difference a pretty is just as important as an ugly.

In the movie Jimmy Neutron Jimmy builds a hover craft and uses it to go around town and fix problems that are usually started because of something he did.
I think pretties don't come back to uglyville because they think their to good for it know that their pretty. With the change on the outside i think comes change on the inside. The feelings they had before are not forgotten but more but at the bottom of things they care about. The only thing they seem to care about is having fun and being wild.

Tally jumped of the building and landed in the pleasure gardens.Near where she came in. When she was trying to go back home she thought she was caught. Instead it was another ugly named Shay, who was there for the same reason Tally was. They were talking and were a lot alike. Tally was going to teach shay the way she goes home instead of using shays stolen hover board.
We learned that shay is adventurous and daring and finds getting in trouble fun. Shay and Tally are a lot alike to me. and i think they will become really really good friends and Tally will make peris jealous.

The book made it clear that the bungee cords were in case of a fire. but the pretties do it for fun too. i think the pretties do it for the adrenaline and the rush. They seem to enjoy dangerous things and have fun and i cant think of anything crazier than jumping of a building.
History of Bungee: "Bungee has quite an old origin. The idea of this way of jumping comes from the ancient ritual 'Gkol' performed in the Pentecost Island in the Pacific Archipelago of Vanuatu. The legend says that in the village Bunlap a man called Tamalie had a quarrel with his wife and she ran away and climbed a Banyan tree where she wrapped her ankles with liana vines. When Tamalie came up to her, the woman jumped from the tree and so did her husband not knowing what had his wife done. So he died but the woman survived. The men of Bunlap were very impressed by this performance and they began to practise such jumps in case they got in similar situation. This practice transformed into a ritual for rich yam harvest and also for proving manhood.
Modern bungee jumping as we know it today actually started on the 1st of April ( Fools' Day ) 1979 when group of people from the Oxford University Dangerous Sport Club, impressed by a film about 'vine jumpers', jumped from 245-Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England. Using nylon braided, rubber shock cord instead of vines, and dressed in their customary top hat and tails, they performed a four man simultaneous jump .The enthysiasts promptly were arrested for this. But at least hit the world press the next day. The new adrenaline mania has been started. The D.S.C. performed many other jumps, including one off the Golden Gate Bridge. In early 1988, A.J. Hackett and Chris Allum, opened the first commercial jump site in Ohakune, New Zealand. Hackett also made a great commercial show in 1987 when he jumped from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
. As part of the site publicity, Hackett performed an astounding bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower! Nowadays there have already been a lot of towers, cranes, bridges and even hot-air balloons serving as platforms for jumping and bungee is the simplest and easily understood of the aerial extreme sports."

I feel that peris and tally are not really Friends. Tally likes him as more and he just doesn't like her anymore. And when and if Tally gets her surgery they will grow apart and stop talking to each other.

Oxymoron-Hanging upside down hands and knees clutching the knots along the rope Tally pulled herself up into the dark frame work of the bridge. Then stole through it's iron skeleton and across to New Pretty Town.
Irony-"Have seen the piggy"

I think tally wore the mask so the pretties couldn't see her face and make fun of her or get her in trouble because she wasn't even supposed to be there.
History Of The Mask: "The wearer is also considered to be in direct association with the spirit force of the mask and is consequently exposed to like personal danger of being affected by it. For his protection, the wearer, like the mask maker, is required to follow certain sanctioned procedures in his use of the mask. In some respects he plays the role of an actor in cooperation or collaboration with the mask. Without his performing dance and posturing routines, which are often accompanied with certain sounds of music, the mask would remain a representation without a full life-force.
The real drama and power of its form is the important contribution of the wearer. When he is attired in the mask, there is a loss of his previous identity and the assuming of a new one. Upon donning the mask, the wearer sometimes undergoes a psychic change and as in a trance assumes the spirit character depicted by the mask.
Usually, however, the wearer skillfully becomes a “partner” of the character he is impersonating, giving to the mask not only an important spark of vitality by the light flashing from his own eyes but also bringing it alive by his movements and poses. But it would seem that the wearer often becomes psychologically completely attached to the character he is helping to create. He loses his own identity and becomes like an automaton, without his own will, which has become subservient to that of the personage of the mask. It appears, however, that at all times there remains some important, even if sub rosa, association between the mask and its wearer."

To me beauty is something on the inside more than outside. What is the point on being pretty if you are mean and no one likes you. Beauty is judged by how nice you are and what you do for others. although beauty can be about how preety you are. If every one in the world was beautiful i dont think it would be that diffrent. every one would be the same person and have the same freinds.my mom took this pic when we went to hawaii. I love the ocean and think nature is really pretty, Espeically the ocean i love the blue water and white sand. The other picture is of robert pattinson who i think is really ugly in twilight and newmoon when he played as Edward he looked alot better. but sadly he's not Edward.
