What does the following quote from the chapter titled "Waiting For David" tell you about the city?
"That was one thing about being outside the city. It made all that nature stuff they taught us in school seem a lot more useful. She remembered now how rain water fell on the mountains and soaked into the ground."
It helps me put more of a mental picture in my head. How the land is in ruins and beat down not at all like it is know. Tally and shay probably think that these times were lacking technology and compared to their world know we are lacking technology, but what we've built up from is amazing. It also like their comparing the rusty ruins to dark unknown forest. With the same expression we would have from finding something in the forest from a long time ago.
